This needs a follow up. You can legally record even on the steps, even inside. The only restriction is, as you know, in a courtroom

Most folks are totally ignorant of the law and that security guard is totally out of line. Please retrain him to respect the law and if he does this again then discipline and/or fire him! Respect!
