I think raspberries are “easy” if they have the exact environment they like, which can be hard to find. A comment in another video said they tried everything over a number of years to fix some container raspberries that barely produced and didn’t look great, and finally decided to give up, dump them in their compost/refuse area and reuse the pots for something else. The raspberries ended up thriving where they were dropped and produced abundantly.

This is very helpful. I have three 9'x3' raised beds of Heritage raspberries, and got a nice small harvest from the 1st year (growing them as fall-bearing, will be pruning them all back in February).
I have also struggled with identifying a sucker vs a normal primocane. I had lots of canes come up last year, but only a few of them actually put on fruit. Is there any identification methods that can help me let the primocanes help fill out my beds, while pruning the suckers? Is it horizontal vs vertical? Is there any leave pattern differences, or other things I can look for?

Thank you for this information and in such a compact time!

OK so am a little confused about how to tell what are suckers. Do they grow from under the ground or from the base of a cane just above the surface? I thought the suckers were the way in which the plant spread naturally???

Yeah I definitely make the variety mistake! Most of my raspberries were planted free from people getting rid of them online, so no idea what kind they are! But they were free, so I can't complain too much.

Two years in a row, I’ve lost my yellow raspberry plants (Fall-Gold, ) to the heat. Not sure what I am doing wrong. I have them in pots (no space for them in the ground, ) and use the same compost from Lidl as I use for my Blackberries. Blackberries did fine, but the raspberries slowly developed browning leaves and stems, no matter how much water I provided or where (full-sun, partial shade, full shade, ) I placed them. Same with my blueberries. I used an acid-lover’s compost for the blueberries bushes, mixed in with the soil from Lidl and when I measured the final mixture, before potting up, the soil was about a 5.5 PH. Monitored the soil after planting and when the soil became a PH of 6, I top-dressed with more acid-lovers compost and watered it in. Also fed with an acid-lovers fertilizer, while my blackberries and raspberries got a seaweed, phostrogen when in flower and diluted leachate from my compost bin, alternated, every week or so.

How can you tell the difference between a "sucker" and a fruit producing stem?

I have thornless red raspberry. Not going to lie, your opening statement about fool-proof scurred me a little. haha. Nobody wants to be the one who can kill their raspberries. I hope it isn't me. :)

You are great. I love your programming.
Big question from a new gardener
I planted raspberries and this spring there were 1 million sprouts/new plants that came up. I was excited now the bed is so thick. I don’t know if I can get my arms in to pick any berries
for next year. I think what you suggested was to cut off everything a few inches from the ground, but what about thinning? They’re so thick. I should do something in those regards what would you suggest?

HELP
I love your programs and turn to you for suggestions
This is my first year with strawberry production. My tune bearing strawberries were excellent, and my plants are large and vigorous and thick
I’ve seen many comments on what to do next some suggest mowing them down others cutting off the tops and holding Rose digging them up. I hate to do that. They are so beautiful and thick.
What should I do?

I noticed today i had water dripping from my stems like yours was doing here. Is that a had thing? I'm freaking out a little. Its like leaking water. I don't know if I should prune under the dripping and spray a pruning sealer? Ir is that normal? We've had a ton of rain and i have mulch down. Maybe its keeping in the water too much?

I got one as a present from Sams Club. The leaves are looking burnt. What's wrong with it? A fungus? The new leaves look fine. but its showing signs of those changing too🥲🥲
