As a Honda tech I must say this was wonderful. There's a reason the K series has been around for over 20 years, it's the chevy LS of the import world. It's very modular, robust, and modifiable. Plus working on them is significantly easier than a B-series because of the cylinder head design. All comes down to great cylinder head design, more airflow= more power.

Back when I used to have one of my first S13 240sx’s in 2007 me and my friend would sometimes trade cars for the day. He had a CLEAN RSX Type S that was still fresh at the time. I used to LOVE driving that car around and taking it into the high rpm’s. VTEC cracked so loudly and it was such a blast. Fast forward to 2016 my friend, Honda and overall JDM head, would pass away. Now the year is 2022 and I own my first Honda EVER. A 1992 Civic SI hatch. I’m planning on going K20A because it’s the first K series I loved so much. I wish so much I could show him my current car and take him for a drive. My build is inspired by him.

The K24 was a remarkable powerplant. I've been driving an 01 Accord F23A1 for twenty years now and it's a terrific car. My wife had an 06 Accord K24 for several years, and that car drove me NUTS. It was a bigger, heavier car, with a higher displacement engine that made more horsepower and more torque than mine and was both quicker and faster, yet consistently gave 2-3mpg better even driven hard. Made no sense at all, but there it was. :D :D

Do not EVER stop making these videos. Best Info I’ve seen in this format in years

Don’t let this distract you from the fact that Hector is going to be running three Honda civics with spoon engines, and on top of that, he just went into Harry’s and bought three t66 turbos with nos, and a motec exhaust system.

The Z7 does come with high compression pistons though so throwing a K20Z3 head on it and a type S oil pump will have you pushing ~260-270whp with lots of bottom end torque and 9000rpm

I just went for a ride in my friend's K24 swapped BRZ. Car should have come like that from the factory. He doesn't have any crazy mods, just the normal package from Kswap and he is making 224 RWHP. Oh and it sounds amazing.

One of the most interesting things to me about it, is the fact that the 2jz is also perfectly square with a bore of 86mm, and a stroke of 86mm . Great info, great knowledge!

Former Honda owner here. One of the best platforms to start in the tuning scene. I now drive a Z but I fondly remember my "Mugen" days.

I've been saying it for years. Honda does infact build the best 4cyl engines ever made.

As a big honda guy I gotta say this video was very well done. But I need to say that on the k20z3 you can rev to 8600 reliably (stock rev limiter is literally 8300) on the stock oil pump.

Would love to see an in-depth analysis on the differences between superchargers/turbos (ie what would work better in certain applications) and how they work on this channel. One of my new favorite channels so keep up the good work!

You my good man just earned a new subscriber. You seriously just answered every single question I had about what K20/24 variant to go with for my build. Bravo.

The K20A3 does have actual VTEC. The valve lift on the intake side is asymmetrical until VTEC engagement, which promotes high swirl (and more torque) at low RPM, while not choking the engine in the midrange. This is still VTEC, even if it operates differently than the VTEC found on the B series (and more like you'd find on some D series).

It's also worth noting that "K20A" can refer to what is effectively the K20A3 in Japanese vehicles, as well as what's found in the RSX Type S or the Type R. They simply did not stamp the blocks the same as those destined for other markets. You have to look at the code on the head (or under the valve cover) to determine which engine a K20A is.

I am not a Honda guy period... but love the brilliance of the K series engines. I am often humbled by someone in a K-swapped car. Great Video.
