I always wondered what Tolkien intended for the Entwives. Thank you for this in-depth and awesome post. Their tale is one of tragedy; a tragedy in the traditional sense- of a loss that defines a race (the Ents) and grants them an emotional element that is unique in the world. Theirs is a sadness that underlines their power, and adds greater meaning to their actions. The Doom of the Ents is in many ways more profound than the Doom of the Elves or Man. For it is an endless longing that prevents grief. Bravo sir, bravo.

One of my favorite scenes in the book is when Treebeard takes Merry and Pippin to his house, Wellinghall, and Merry and Pippin sleep in Treebeard's bed while Treebeard rests under the little waterfall.

In the movies they don't give any sense that the Ents would have things like homes or furniture (in the book we did see that Quickbeam's dwelling was much more rudimentary) and I would have loved to see Wellinghall.
