Great job science chef! On the matter of brown ring or conc H2SO4, I think WAEC can take another turn and that is:
PORTION OF FILTRATE + CONC/DIL H2SO4 + GENTLE HEAT.
OBSERVATION: A brown fume was produced, (you can test with litmus paper).
INFERENCE: The gas is NO2(g) from NO3-

From the list of specimen, conc H2SO4 and freshly prepared FeSO4 were not required. Are we sure we would be expecting the brown ring test

It's better to be well over prepared than not well prepared. Please don't assume that there will be no brown ring test simply because the instructions didn't ask you to provide the requirements.
