On-Base Family Housing

housing on base has a few advantages. In the 70s, it wasn't at all uncommon for the bigger kids to have a block size softball games where everyone got involved. Everyone looked out for each other, knowing who was in their housing unit and kept track of each other. When families were absent, mail was collected, lawns mowed, snow was shoveled, and kids not at the school bus stop got their doors knocked on. Nobody missed a beat.

Living in military housing areas as I was growing up was a blast. It's truly a great place for kids to grow up.
