Adam, you saved me about $300 today. It's 102 in Reno, NV and most repair places could only come within one week (because, I get it it's crazy season), and they would charge me $150 just to get to my house. I watched your video, found a part store in town and replaced the whole thing in less than 15 minutes and the part was $18. We're back in business. Thanks Adam!

AC stopped working. Googled problem and found your video. Ordered part online, arrived today and installed it in 15 minutes. Your video was great and saved me probably $ 200. Although my old capacitor had more less exploded (top blown off) I'm so glad you explained how the capacitor may still be charged and how to discharge it. Any way just wanted to say thanks!

Safety Tip!!! Do not put the ON/OFF breaker back into the same case...set it on top. Technically you can put the breaker (or whatever you wish to call it) in upside down and no current will flow, but if you set it on top, you know 100% sure that it is pulled out and not installed and you have a visual confirmation at a glance that there is no power. Also, before you remove the wires, make sure you not only take pictures, make notes of which wires on on (C), on (FAN) and on (HERM). Besides that, excellent video.

Dude thanks for this! My air conditioner went down. It seemed to be the capacitor so I watched this, and fixed it. Cost me $23. Thanks for being a boss.

Holy crap. You just saved me a few hundred dollars! Turned off the power, took out the old capacitor, called Grainger with the part #, picked it up in 20 minutes, installed the new capacitor in 20 minutes. It worked!! My wife thinks I'm a genius! Thanks man!!

Diagnosed and fixed the capacitor based on this video.. U r doing the lords work and a terrific educator. I saved $100 to $300 fixing it myself. The most annoying part was removing all the screws and waiting 3 days for the part from amazon because home depot and osh do not carry this part. Thanks so much!!!

Thanks so much. I just bought a capacitor and replaced it myself. Everything works after one very hot day with no AC. You saved me about $200 in repair bills. Thanks!

I have to say that I never would have thought to turn that switch upside down. Glad it was that easy and didn't have to deal with capacitor issues! Thanks!

Hi Adam,
Just wanted to give you a update. I called around and the HVAC guy wanted to come out and "take a look" . I told him I only wanted a 45/5 370v capacitor. He told me that it was against the law for him to sell that to me. Stating that if I get shocked then his company would be liable. So I asked him where around town could I find one. Again he said that that information is for skilled tech. He asked for my name and address because I told him that I would check around town. He said that he would notify some kind of Agency if I did the repair myself. So at this point I just hung up the phone. I think he was trying to strong arm me into spending $150-$200 for a cheap part.

So I went on Amazon and found a Titan Pro 45/5 got it for $11.99. Bad thing is I had to wait for 2 days for it to get here. I think I will order a emergency replacement just to be safe. Since they are so cheap.

Another thing I noticed while I was changing the capacitor, I should've changed the contactor also. I think I will order this cheap part also.

But your video gave me the courage and knowledge to do this myself. Thank you again.

PS that HVAC dude did scare me a little with that reporting crap. But nobody came out. I peeked out the window.

Thank you. Our A/C stopped blowing cold air tonight---on the eve of what's supposed to be the hottest day of the year so far---and I was able to diagnose it down to a bad run/start capacitor. Your video was very helpful.

Hopefully I can source a replacement capacitor locally tomorrow.

I felt that certain parts of the cap could go out and that the fan cap could have gone bad.  It turned out that it was a bad fan.I replaced the fan motor and put the fan on a single cap and the problem has been resolved.  Thanks for your response.

I like your video because of the fact that it goes up to 1080p. 720p is a bit blurry.

Video is extremly helpful, I had the AC unit on last night and I noticed that it had stopped it won't start but real helpful the comment on the voltage hum when you try to turn it on. I've noticed this same issue with fans, thanks again.

Digging the blue dishwashing gloves @2:30.;)  Thanks for the vid! Very helpful for a similar model Bryant AC unit we have.  The symptoms were similar with the electric hum and without fan movement.
