Even if Zappa did do that it would have been obvious that it was classic, tongue in cheek Frank Zappa social commentary

Frank Zappa is an interesting man and terribly misunderstood. Even his kids names are wild until realizing how thoughtful of a father he is.

I'm a 51-year-old punk rocker so glad that Zappa is catching the youth of today 😊Thanks for the info

Just the fact that you’re saying “Frank Zappa” at your age… is absolutely amazing.. I love you !!!

Zappa was far too cool to have lived to see this timeline. Nice work keeping the story straight! 👏

Zappa is one of the best representatives Rock could ever ask for. He showed the world that it wasn't just for spaced out druggies, and that wild innovation isn't always directly influenced by those drugs. Truly a unique man.

The actual story sounds like Zappa. Always had a reputation for being a thoughtful person, RIP.

Frank was the only Frank i ever knew. 30 years ahead of his time. A fricken einstein of music.

As a former Jarhead who saw Zappa play live in 1981, I know he would never have done something like that. ‘Black Napkins’ is still my fav. Semper Fi (R.I.P. Frank. You were a genius) 🫡

Thank you. It's insane to me that in 2023 people are still saying so many things about the man that are absolute nonsense.

Zappa was a profoundly intelligent individual and could debate virtually anything in a rational manner

You are both right... and you are both wrong.

Here's what really happened:

Frank invited three marines to play music on stage with The Mothers, and they ripped the doll apart as a protest against the horrors of war. All war is hell, but the war in Viet Nam was a particularly horrific war. Ripping the doll apart was a statement of truth made by these marines, themselves. It made people sick- as it was intended to. It was an anti- war protest from 3 marines who were in that horrific war.

But Zappa explains the whole thing better. At 7:10 of this youtube clip (Frank and Moon Zappa talk Valley Girl | Letterman):

Frank is the most patriotic heretical no-man-seer man of all time. He did more for the wider U.S. American people than I think anyone will ever know. FUCKING LEGEND

Frank Zappa never wanted to harm anybody. He was the ultimate hippie, as even if he didn't agree with you, he agreed you could disagree and be friends. Not saying he was an angel or perfect, but he was no better or worse than I....and that's an important lesson I learned from him and Davy Jones.

The ACTUAL story, as told by Frank himself on Letterman in 1982, is that he invited some marines up on stage and handed them a large doll. He told them to do to it what they were trained to do. They tore it apart. Many people in the audience were crying as Frank held up the broken pieces.

Zappa seemed like the one the most brilliant and decent artists I've ever known. Thoughtful and humane. It's crazy that anyone would accuse Zappa of doing such horrible things.
