I grew up in a vegetarian household. This was my (Irish) dad's favourite meal!! I didn't even know Shepherds Pie was traditionally meat-based until I was 18, and I've been very proud introducing the plant-based version to friends since. Results are always head-over-heels in love ❤❤

We always made our sheppards pie with ketchup gravy! It's a perfect way to add umami!

More foods like this should be plant based in the first place. If the meat is just for texture and loaded with spices, you can get a near identical effect without killing an animal

I make a vegetarian version using I 1/3 of an onion, an egg, 1/2 cup of pecans and 1/2 cup steel cut oats thrown in a food processor and then cooked like ground meat. It does use an egg as a binding ingredient but I’m sure you could use some vegan substitute as well :]
