How Chinese Influence Is Dividing Europe (Through Hungary & Serbia)
Показать описание
▶ In this video, in collaboration with the European Correspondent, we explore how China's growing influence is causing divisions in Europe, focusing on Hungary and Serbia as case studies. Hungary's rotating EU presidency in late 2024 and its history of aligning with Chinese interests highlight potential challenges, especially amid a trade war between Europe and China. We provide historical context on China's shift from being influenced by foreign powers to becoming a global influencer through economic projects like the Belt and Road Initiative. Examples of Chinese influence in Africa, Asia, and South America illustrate this strategy, often involving infrastructure investments that lead to economic dependence. In Europe, China invests heavily, buying stakes in key sectors, which raises concerns about debt traps and political influence. Hungary and Serbia show the direct impact of Chinese projects and the resulting internal and external political dynamics. The video concludes by discussing the implications for the EU and the potential for resistance or acceptance of China's growing role in European affairs.
