I have been using hardwood charcoal. It's very light, porous and cheep. Seem to be working

Thanks for info. In South Africa we don't have volcanic rock and clay balls are way too expensive, so we are limited to granite stone (not the best) Could Perlite be an alternative?

Hi, Thank you for sharing your knowledge. 20mm Granite chips or sand is the most affordable medium where I live, the sand is very coarse and quick to drain, which would be better in a flood and drain system? Thanks again, Marc

Hey. Great jobs on your videos. Have a question on growing media. Around my area gravel is king. To make it more effective could you add activated carbon to your beds or just use activated carbon?

hi Jonathan, thanks for your valuable informations...but recently I came across Dr. Mark McMurty's iAVs method using "sand" as media with a specific particle size distribution...according to him it is superior in filtration and gives way high surface you ever tried this? what's your opinion about using iAVs?
