Can't wait for Solar Sands to discover "Paris Green" and upload a six-minute long video of him eating 19th century wallpaper or something.

I'm a paint chemist, so i deal with similar chemicals a bit, although lead pigments are banned in my country. You definitely want thicker nitrile gloves, and change them regularly it you can. Boiled linseed oil is the right stuff, but the cheap variety is often a blend of solvents and polymers. So try and find something that says 100% linseed oil.

Solar Sands is one of the only channels whose videos I'll click on having no idea what I'm in for.

8:37 funnily enough, I bet you could do a decent NileRed impression if you tried

I LOVE THAT YOU MADE PAINT! I rarely see people making art supplies and you did great!!
Quick suggestion on paint making, I really REALLY recommend a glass muller over glass to grind pigments when making art materials, it makes paintings less likely to chip off and easier to paint with.

I'm not sure whether to describe this video as "Nile Sands" or "Solar Red", but it sure is one of the two, isn't it?

hello i am an assay chemist for a mining company. I would say ur lead risks here are low unless ur like breathing in a ton of lead white (PbO). lead white (most commonly called litharge in my area of work) or red lead (Pb3O4) are actually important chemicals used to get gold and silver out of ore so i was entertained learning that it was once used as a paint pigment!

Crazy how making colors is somehow discovered with repeated trial and error!
Reminds me of how the first purple color pigment came from a specific species of snails in the Mediterranean.
Where it was extremely expensive to make and buy, which leads to rich nobles being able to buy it, leading to the connection of purple colors equaling royalty.

0:50 Since Roman times, the peacock has been a symbol of immortality, a little fun fact for your interpretation of ancient art

I love how this book feels like something you would normally write in a script because your delivery tone matches with the style of the author.

I remember when I first discovered your channel, you were doing a lot of art critiques on Deviantart. Seeing your content shift to what you now put out has been fascinating, and I look forward to whatever you next put out.

As someone that's worked in digital art for most of my life, it was a mind-expanding experience having to confront that color is a physical thing that needs to be made from ingredients. We might've lost something when we invented RGB / CMYK mixing and suddenly only needed 3-4 pigments to represent basically anything we needed.

Learning to make your own paint is an amazing way of understanding the way you use colour
