The Cupra Born is on sale in the UK right now, the starting model has 58kwh battery, power is 204 ps and top speed 99mph. Starting price £34, 715 after all taxes etc.(us $43, 200).

That is a very attractive car. I'm glad we are finally getting past the point in history where automakers intentionally made their EVs ugly to "control" sales. It looks like we are heading into the era where EV sales are considered a good thing and auto makers want them to be popular. Except Toyota, they still don't want EVs to be popular.

We need a boring affordable ev for the US market. Unfortunately the current production of EVs is not high enough to saturate the market to drive down prices and encourage ev manufacturers to build one. Most people in the US can't afford an ev.

If they as much as put this on the road for the same price as a zoe with the same specs it could sell at a 10% higher premium than the zoe with the looks and still be sold out forever. But then again, with the name cupra customers would maybe be disappointed with the performance and they would take away from their own branding power like this.

Why would you need more than 100km range in a PHEV? That will cover your daily driving needs. A 200km battery would just add unnecessary weight.

Not coming to Canada. In email exchange with Cupra as if they were planning to sell the Born in Canada as it is in Mexico they replied that they have abandoned their project to do so “because it is way to complicated to deal with Canada’s regulations”. The actual gouvernement is just just following what legacy automakers are saying to them. Their latest policy on EVs is to force companies to sell 20% of their car sales as electric IN FOUR YEARS! RIDICULOUS!

This is a really interesting car that I would consider buying. It also reveals the small MEB platform, and what we can expect from it. The 20000 euro price is a realistic price, unlike prices of chinese EVs in China which will not match what we would have to pay here in the EU.

Here in the U.S. we have to deal with the less than honest dealership network. If you don't think that is true look into respected professions via Forbes publishing. Do you have a similar problem in your country?

Disappointed there will be no motor on the rear axil. Looking for a AWD or RWD of that size. (About 4.2m) So far only Toyota Yaris Cross hybrid is available new in AWD in the B segment.
