Every Marine is a Janitor, Every Sailor is a painter.

If it moves, salute it. If it doesn’t move, paint it.

I joined the navy to see the sea.
And what did I do?
I became a painter.

I hated tinting paint for the Navy... Wearing a respirator and full PPE in the summer in a warehouse in the southwest is very fun 😊

what people don't know is that 90% of a sailor's job is painting the ship

Yeah right.. as a fcking merchant mariner. Every day we spent like 5 hours chipping, sanding rust and then paint it. Never ending cycle of that bullshit but hey, at least our ship looks very damn beautiful.

I had a buddy that was in the navy in the 90’s. He said a large amount of his time was spent just painting the ship.

Untreated metal will start rusting in no time, especially in sea air. Its a sucky part of life for anyone enlisted in the navy.

If it moves, grease it, if I’d doesn’t move, paint it.

I've done welding work on ships under construction before. Trust me, even halfway through..no...even if you only finished 10% of the hull, it will already begin to rust. Even the welded areas. Unsightly, like our NWYT said, but hey, that's normal. Just try not to get any cuts lmao

Surely the U.S. Navy will be going to laser rust removal at some point.

Rust can even be protective, as long as the surface is free from imperfections or cracks, through which it could penetrate the metal and worsen the damage.

Rust on these big ships and carriers can be protective for some time extent.

Try getting into the superstructure of an Ohio class Submarine in July in SE Georgia. 120 degrees in there, chipping, grinding, needling rust, then priming and painting

It's all good as long as nobody touches the boats.
