I saw a Peter McKinnon video in the last year or so and he says that he stopped shooting 4k and just rendered his 1080p footage into 4k to get the algorithm boost on YouTube. It saves system resources and storage through the workflow and no one notices the difference. Most people are not even watching YouTube on devices that render 4k. In fact, a lot of people watch YouTube on cell phones and tablets. It is something to consider if you are mainly looking to use 4k to get better search engine results.

Another channel I follow, (Photo Universe), asked the same question and my answer was that even though I have a 4k monitor, I haven't really noticed when a video is 4k or 1080p, so from a viewer perspective I would say unless you are doing stuff that really takes advantage of the extra resolution it will likely go unnoticed. Therefore, I see the question as being does it afford you an advantage for the extra processing time needed? If Youtube is preferencing 4k over 1080p and you have a PC fast enough to handle the throughput speedily and effectively, then go for it.

As for the camera to go for, as you have Canon glass already, Canon would seem to be the obvious answer and I would only say if you are going to be using it to walk about, add weight to the consideration. Walking around in a changing environment seems to be a challenge for pretty much any camera out there, one guy I watch, who has published a huge amount of actual walk around footage on Youtube is the Camera Conspiracies Guy and his conclusions are interesting. He is not a Canon fan, it has to be said, but if I can try to summeries what I think I have gleaned from his channel, if you are looking outside Canon then he tends to favour in increasing levels 1) Samsung NX1 - still a very capable 4k camera which as I have one I can attest can be hacked to some serious bandwidth levels, H.265 seems to be an issue though when processing. 2) Panasonic G9 - I know, the autofocus is the issue but it is a very capable video camera since the last firmware update 3) Olympus OM1 Mark 3 - basically a G9 with phase detect autofocus, he seems very impressed with it and if you are just getting a camera to do a job and not something that will become your main camera, I would say it would have the legs to repay on that investment despite the Olympus situation 4) Fujifilm XT-4 - seems to be the one that he gravitates too when heading out the door, older lenses seem to be an issue here 5) Sony A7SIII - seems to be the one he is currently eulogising about, this camera he seems to think is near perfect but it is a serious investment I would say, perhaps the Sony A7c might be an option? There are also action cam options to consider. Getting a camera that can deal with constant changes in focus, exposure and dynamic range when solo walk and talking seems to make all cameras glitch at some point

I have the Zv1 at church, it will over heat and shut off in less then 1 hour, just being turned on as a web cam into OBS. if you shut it off it starts working agian in 1080P then it stayed on for another 45 minutes no problems.

I am a Sony only guy, but for you go 90D canon, you have the lens, color will match, but mixing 4K and 1080P might look weird. but 2 camera shot could be 1080p for both then just go 4K when using 1 camera shot and outside stuff.

I've always been super impressed with the video quality of this channel. I have an 80D and it's a great camera. My vote would be the 90D.

even the r5 loses focus watch potato jets video at the brewery. The only way to guarantee focus is to manually pull it.

Outstanding video, So much to say, so much to say. Where do I start? First about Fuji, I'll be fast here, the reason why Fuji has delayed the XH-2 so much is because they failed miserably in the video AF, auto ISO during video is horrible and the background out of focus areas horribly wobbles. So that's why the video centric XH-2 has not arrived. Every Fuji camera has the same video issues; horrible auto ISO, loose focus a lot and the background wobbles. About the other cameras I will not chose Sony (just for the toyish feeling of the Sony's). If you are going to buy two cameras for video then Ill go Panasonic S1-H or even the new S5, they are both very robust cameras (AF seems to be good in both). Now if you are buying only one then stay with Canon, that will save you tons of times, get another 80D and call it a day, there's no need for 4K in YouTube (that's ridiculous). I am still baffled why people buy into the 4K crap, so many misleading videos about 4K fooling newbies; is just to painful to hear people talk about 4K being a most have when they slug a 16ram laptop and no storage whatsoever, then go a record clips (anything less than 45 seconds is not a video but a clip and twenty 30 seconds recordings are put together is not a video but 20 clips together) of silly things that their phones could have done better. For pro movies you have your C's, so you are cover, therefore Ill just buy another 80D and call it a day! Did I miss or skipped something? I don't know. But generally that's what I would do. If you’re looking for a run and gun camera that can do both video and stills at good quality, then it’s a bit of a no brainer for you. Keep the glass and upgrade to the 90d if you need 4k. It all depends on budget and what you want the camera for. A Sony is more of an expense than just the body and good glass is not cheap. Glass is paramount! 90d fella

To be honest bro some of the car vloggers I follow on YT use the Sony A6400, A6500, or A6600 but mostly the A6400. Some even use the A7 III but doesnt have the flip up screen or anything like that. Youd have to use an external moitor.

Same boat. I think they might be putting the xe3 on sale for 500 again but with the lenses this time. I would love an xt3 but I don't think I can get the funds together. we must see watch this on tablets or phones. In general for podcast I feel like it doesn't matter I'm perfectly fine using 1080p but I'm not trying to make music videos right now

with sony and Fujifilm you can deploy zeiss lenses, if you like that sort of thing (I do). fujinon lenses are no slouch. I find my Fujis to be kind of addicting, as digital cameras go.

What about Sony A7R II ? Same price as the canon 90D, 4k 4.2.2, and will have 42.2M pixel for your major work in photography. After that, it xt-3 and sony A6400 . Let us know what you chose. Best regards

black friday deals out now. question..sony a7mk2 with 28-70 kitlens for 899 euro or canon eos rp with 24-105 kitlens for 1199. Not sure which to go for, both fit in my budget and i shoot landscapes, stationary birds, buildings and airplanes. Could you give me your choice? Thanks.
