Poundmaker is my great great grandfather, I descend as a 6th generation from his brother 'Yellow Mud Blanket'. Poundmaker got his name from herding buffalo into pounds when he was young before he became a chief. He's a highly revered historical figure to us Plains Cree, we have his grave set on the highest hill on the reservation land that he resided his people to live. & that I descend from his bloodline makes me all the more proud of my roots. My last name is Tootoosis, which came from one Yellow mud blankets sons, residential schools happened & that's where my last name came from on that note. Poundmaker also had an alliance with our old tribal rival the Blackfoot. He killed the son of one of the Blackfoot Chief's in battle, the Chief was named Crowfoot. Crowfoot seeked who killed his son but then asked him to come see & speak with him as Poundmaker reminded Crowfoot of his own son. Poundmaker was then adopted as Crowfoots son. When Poundmaker was arrested by Canada & held in captivity with fellow Plains Cree chief Big Bear (Mistahi Maskwa). Crowfoot threatened that if they cut off Poundmaker's hair. Crowfoot would assemble his warriors & make war. To which is why Poundmaker had his long hair still while photographed in captivity awaiting his trial & Big Bear who sadly didn't have that help, had his hair shortened when arrested.

Lol big comment, but just felt like speaking history of my 6x-Great Grandfather (Nichapan) Poundmaker. I take high pride in my roots & knowing I share my bloodline with him. Thank you, Hiy Hiy.

Traditional Cree chanting and drums mixed with the drone notes of a hurdy-gurdy. It sounds like an odd combination on paper, but Geoff Knorr makes it work flawlessly.
The mark of a great composer!

The shift at 1:11 is beautiful and this piece is breathtaking. Civilizations composers know what they're doing with their rearrangements and it's great.

Poundmaker's actual name was Pîhtokahanapiwiyin; Poundmaker is what the name means.

Poundmaker was adopted by our Chief, Crowfoot. As a young boy, he made peace between two long rivals, Blackfoots and Plains Crees. He lead his people well, and we remember his as a peacekeeper. And he will always be apart of the Siksikaitsitapii (Blackfoot people).

Having him and Sumeria in the game plus Scotland as a neighbouring civ is pure bliss.

Poundmaker was a peaceful chief, althought he did fought in some raids against other tribes, but he largely prefered to defend the camp. When the Metis war broke out, his warriors wanted to attack the gouvernment soldiers but he prevented them, that didn't stop the canadian gouvernment to accuse him of treason and imprison him.

If I was a leader in Civ VI, I feel like I’d get along with Poundmaker, he seems like a nice guy.

I don’t know what it’s called, whether it’s a “yodel” or something else when the singer allows his voice to crack to a higher register like that at 4:07, but when he manages to bounce back and forth between those two precise notes like that without losing the key, and then the entire ensemble does it immediately afterwards... just amazing skill, underappreciated as hell because it doesn’t fit with modern popular musical sensibilities, but amazingly impressive.

Can we take a moment to appreciate the drip of this absolute unit?

3:18 on is what really makes this rendition the best one. I don’t know why they didn’t carry it over to the industrial and atomic themes.

I know Cree are quite peaceful, but this music somehow makes me want to declare war on Canada.

That western frock-coat decorated Indian-style is pretty cool though.
