I love how the Maori themes change from ancient to the later ages; first with the Ka Mate haka, a song that's incredibly frightening to outsiders hearing it for the first time, but leading into the softer pokarekare ana showing hey, once you get to know them, these guys are pretty chill.

It's also representative of playing as the maori in game: I die, I die - we're on a boat in the middle of nowhere and need several more turns than others to settle! But then - I live, I live, we've found land and can start building our community. Then it repeats - we send our settlers into the sea to find more opportunities, standing united even though we may be continents apart.

Then the music modernises, but always the Ka Mate and pokarekare ana can be heard, showing the deep connections the maori have with their past that they carry into their future. We've changed, but we know where we come from. We're different now, but we remember who we were.

tldr this music is amazing on so many levels

Maori are the only upstairs neighbors I approve of.

I love this theme. Music is so calm, sad and "shaking" as a lone boat in the ocean.

2:03 gives me chills every time. There was something truly beautiful and emotional hearing the haka rising steadily, as I saw my communities grow stronger and healthier.

Ka mate, ka mate! ka ora! ka ora!
Ka mate! ka mate! ka ora! ka ora!
Tēnei te tangata pūhuruhuru
Nāna nei i tiki mai whakawhiti te rā
Ā, upane! ka upane!
Ā, upane, ka upane, whiti te ra!

The first thing the Pakeha (European) sailors sailed across the South Pacific just near Terra Australis, they witness the land of the long white cloud [Aotearoa] just in front of their sights, with the Maori watched vessels beyond their vessels' size approach them, with curiosity and caution in their eyes. This song signifies the period of 'Discovery'

It's beautiful and calm, but also pretty subdued and emotional sounding. Personally, that's excellent.

Maori language is one the of Austronesian (Southeast Asian) Languages. Research found they share the same ancestry too. Same DNA lineage can be traced from Sundaland (mass land of Malaysia and Indonesia during the ice age), across to southern Taiwan and to the Polynesian islands.
