What would the US leaving NATO mean for the US and NATO?

This video explores how would a hypothetical US exit from NATO affect the US? Also its stance against China and Russia, and Europe's defense against Russia? How might Russia and China react and profit from this? What would the impact on Ukraine and the war be? If Europe quickly assembled an army or formed another pact, would it include the UK? What might such an army look like? And how would it compare to Russia’s military of today?

I expect the US arms industry would be a big loser, for security reasons, Europe would want to favor local arms production.

The only relevant question here was not addressed. Would France share it's nuclear deterrent and would it be sufficient to deter Russia?

NATO was on life support. Until Putin invaded Ukraine

The US simply has scale being one large military -- we can have certain systems such as multiple aircraft carriers, specialized long-tail equipment, and a full expeditionary capability. Europe as a whole has the scale but each country by itself doesn't. The UK and France can each barely keep 2 carriers operating. Europe would need to finally try to politically unite their military and foreign policy to really leverage it.

You avoided talking about Turkey's position in this scenario like it's lava or something.

"Congress is the only one who can pass a declaration of war, providing a check on executive power." 😂😂😂 That's a good one!

From the current Ukrainian offensive in Russia, I think we’re starting to see that Russia is really not as big with threat as we originally thought.

It's not going to happen. Remember, Trump is a businessman, not a politician. His statement of "I'm going to pull the US out of NATO" is a negotiating "first offer". It's a point from which to start negotiations. It's up to the other NATO nations to make a counter-offer. Something like, "we'll pay what we agreed to pay into our defense if you stay in NATO".

3:10 FYI, the US Congress hasn't *Declared War* in *83 years.* Yet we seem to have been involved in quite a few wars in the last eight decades. 🙃

You did a pretty good job covering all the fine details but you really missed the big picture. The most important impact of US leaving NATO would be the loss of the US’s nuclear deterrent. This would Lead to a massive expansion of the nuclear stockpiles and delivery systems in France and the UK. But the bigger impact would be the countries currently without nuclear weapons but the civil capability to pursue them creating nuclear armament programs. Countries such as Sweden, Finland, Roumania, Canada, Germany and Ukraine possess large civil nuclear industries with the capabilities to be turned into nuclear weapons development. The US involvement in NATO with their security guarantees and nuclear deterrent has been the key factor in so many nations signing on to the nuclear non proliferation treaties and why Ukraine gave up its nuclear weapons in the first place. No US in NATO will see 2 to 3 times more nuclear armed countries within 10 years.

Not a huge Trump fan, but the way he gets dragged for demanding the rest of NATO pull their weight is ridiculous. The out of context quotes from almost a decade ago at this point associated with the “fact he wants to disband NATO” are ridiculous, and live rent free in the heads of WAY too many ignorant people…….

TRUMP: Pay your bills, NATO!
NATO: No!
Russia: *invades Ukraine*
NATO: OK!

America doesn't really care about Russia outside of defending its allies. Something you mentioned is the US would need to increase spending to counter Russia due to losing NATO resources. Why would America need to counter Russia if it is no longer allies with countries bordering Russia? It could then focus all resources on China and elsewhere, possibly even reduce spending by not maintaining bases in Europe. Likewise, why would European defense companies stop selling various parts to America? Those sales would just fund their own expansion.

The only real downside for America is probably fewer weapon sales to NATO countries. Nothing else you mentioned makes sense as a downside if America no longer has interests in Europe. Again you have to remember Russia is a threat to American allies in Europe but not to America itself.

For such a hypothetical scenario, then please create another video of the US forming a new alliance afterwards. Surely it would forge a new one involving nations from the Pacific and others. And how would such new alliance match up against the similar foes in China, Russia, Iran, etc.

Worth noting Rest of NATO would be 2 Supercarriers and 4 other Aircraft Carriers, if we want to be accurate.
