He blurred the name and then exposed the name 😂

I love that Hikaru agrees with and respects his tough competitors enough to basically say there's a huge gap in skill between an FM or even IM and Fabi or Hikaru.

I am not convinced with the Fabi case. f4 and f5 seemed so natural. The majority of the moves looked so natural to me. The time usage did not have a "cadence" as suggested. He spent half of his time on bishop a4 and f-pawn push. They are the big moments of the game. I am not convinced that he cheated.

Please can you get Fabi and C2 on your show for even just a quick interview/catch up? I’d love to see more collabs PLS ❤

Fabiano played a bad opening and got punished. Time usage was not every five seconds per move as he suggested. And it is very natural to get nervous in time trouble. He had less than 5 seconds at the end so blunders happen. At the end we need more games of this player to make conclusions so let's not ruin someone's reputation.

From perspective of player of similar strength to that FM (2400 elo), I would say that none of these moves were particularly suspicious. And with a little bit of time I could figure out them as well. F4 move is very logical, as black king is not very safe and you want to open up the position. SImilarly, F4-F5 plan is natural to stop black from playing F5.
And do not forget that he was facing one of the best players of our times, so he could be stressed out and take more time than usual on his moves. I had similar situation when I once played Hikaru online.

I think this is one of the occasions where there were some clear pawn pushing opportunities that looked interesting and white basically just played them, trying to pressure the opponent on time. None of these moves looked too weird to me frankly. Especially the pawn pushes, I could definitely see even a lesser player going for these. Didn't look very suspicious to me :/

Fun fact this guy won the biggest Italian piano competition in 2017, it says on Wikipedia.

There should be absolutely no tolerance for cheating ... it kills the game !!! Almost every day I get a message on the server that I got back some points because someone had cheated against me. This is ridiculous! Even one instance of cheating and that account and person should be banned for life !!!

9:20 That was odd indeed. Yet, his time usage is never 5 sec. per move (as Fabi claims), and the bold moves are classified by the engine as mistakes and inaccuracies

Perhaps in analysing this, great players should take into account the psychological barrier to beating them. It could easily be that a lesser player is unable to follow through with a clearly winning situation against a Hikaru or a Fabiano because they can't believe they are actually doing it.

To be honest this is one of the least compelling cheating accusations I've seen. Seems well within reason for a 2500 to play these moves with that timing on their own. Obviously, there's a huge gap in skill between Fabi and this player but not large enough where it's impossible for this guy to put a solid game together and be winning/not lose.

The fact he saved it from there....love the way they jump around the accusation

Fabiano at age 30 looks like he's 15.

I got this game on my cell phone from mutual friend, who I share with the guy who almost beat Fabi, he's croatian FIDE master and I assure you that he didn't cheat. Whole group chat wen't crazy two weeks ago when our friend sent it and we were amazed that our compatriot had Fabi on the ropes.

One thing to consider about "1 in 100" or even "1 in 1000" chances is that there are many games played on Titled Tuesday. If there are a few hundred games per round, and 11 rounds, and 2 Titled Tuesdays per day...there are thousands of games every Tuesday. It makes sense that at least one of those would be unusual. A 1 in 10, 000 chance would seem as likely or not, each Titled Tuesday. Of course, probability doesn't explain everything, but it is something to consider. (If anyone has the numbers for the typical number of competitors, that would make these calculations more meaningful)
