I have a question for you Peter. You said you bought a condo, Do you own the land? I have looked into Condos on Oahu and have found that the land is a lease option only. So once that lease is up the owner of the land can take your condo.

I'm an avid tennis player and where I live in CA there are plenty of tennis courts within walking distance. Is it hard to find free, public tennis courts on any HI islands? I've been to Oahu, Maui, and Big Island and don't recall seeing many of them.

South Kona looks good to me. I grew up in LA and OC and moved 2 and half years ago just outside of Austin TX. The prices of real estate on South Kona are very similar. I am missing the ocean like crazy and will move to Hawaii. Austin is blowing up because everyone is moving here so time to get back to the water!!!

You said the average home cost is 500-700k in Hawaii. Is that an average for all the islands? I lived on Oahu for 3.5 years, and I agree for the prices there, Maui, kauai. But from what I've seen of the Big Island houses are going for 180k or so and up.

The highest paying jobs are on Oahu for the most part, and due to traffic being a hot mess, you’ll want to live close to your job. Good luck!

I feel the big island offers many "afforadle" choices. Really nice homes with approximately an acre of land, 3 to 4 bedrooms and 2 to 3 baths for anywhere from $250k-$350k. Then again if you don't already have a job waiting for you when you get there it'll still be hard to afford.
