I came to House when I was in advanced middle age, and like the casting people and the numbskull show-runners, I had never heard of Hugh Laurie. IMO, there are just no comparable characters in acting history that have been realized so amazingly and admirably and stunningly as Hugh Laurie achieved with Gregory House. (Possibly a close second would be Martin Sheen as Jed Bartlett.) I actually felt uneasy and worried for the actor in the sequences dealing with the mental hospital and the prison. I was worried for Hugh Laurie. The performance was just that stunning. How did he do that ?
