He Shot an Entire Family at a Costco [True Crime Documentary]

Just past 7:30PM at a busy Costco superstore in Corona, California the sound of gunfire rang out.

Dozens of calls were placed to 911 while shoppers ran for the doors, or dropped to the floor.

The response was rapid, but the details of what had occurred were patchy, at best. What was clear was that an entire family on their weekly grocery shop had been targeted by a single gunman.

While emergency services rushed the wounded to the hospital - the shooter, an off-duty LAPD officer, was escorted from the store, ostensibly uninjured and without assistance…

On Friday February 9, 2024 the state Attorney General’s Office confirmed that it will not retry the case against Salvador Sanchez.

The AG Office stated: “The Department of Justice stands by the decision to charge and prosecute this case, however, after considering a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, the input of the surviving victims and feedback from the trial jury, the department has decided not to retry the case.”


In an updated statement, Defense attorney Michael Schwartz said that jurors in the mistrial favored acquittal on the voluntary manslaughter charge by a 9-3 count.

The most shocking thing about this case is how little CCTV coverage is at this Costco.

The fact that he remained laying on the floor until the police arrived proves to me that he wanted the police to think he'd been severely injured. When in fact he didn't have a scratch on him. The only injury he had was to his ego.

Shouldn't the fact that the victim was shot four times in his back explain that the only injury that this cop received was to his ego?! How did he believe there is a serious threat if the victim had his back to him? Why did he shoot the father and mother also?
Most importantly, as a father wasn't he supposed to make sure his baby is safe before he madly shoots?

If the officer saw that family - at Coscto - as a deadly threat, justifying shooting off 10 rounds, imagine how he perceives everybody else out in the world. He had no self control to STOP shooting. That is what was frightening.

The fact that Sanchez was lucid, very methodical and clear with explanations seems rehearsed. Sanchez never seemed confused. For someone who was knocked unconscious he sure seems to recall the specifics about it very well.

No battered wife would get away with a plea of self-defense under these circumstances. Certainly an armed cop should not be treated differently.

An off duty police officer over reacts emotionally, after being slapped on the back of the head. He overreacts with retaliation, and without concern for the baby he just dropped, instead he attempts to take out the two elderly parents who were running away at the time. A fearful overreactive ego is a dangerous thing.

Notice how the cop is just patting him on the shoulder. Anyone else would have been violently screamed at while being tackled. Crazy! Police can do anything.

He was hit hard enough to be knocked unconscious with no bruising or swelling, regained consciousness within 3 seconds and yelling that he was a police officer while firing ten times, the victims were shot in the back. I'm not buying his innocence.

I lived very close to this Costco store and remember the impact it had on the community. Ironically, the aftermath and outcome was never televised, so I appreciate this video. The officer will have to live with his guilt for the rest of his life, but ego and narcissistic personalities, he will convince himself that he was right for his entire life.
