Trying to make these 34 Year Old Volvos Better

The Volvo 240 AND 740 get love in this instalment. On the 745 I "Service" the noisy blower motor/heater fan, fix an exhaust heat shield rattle, replace the automatic shift mechanism bushes, re glue the glovebox lid trim and fit a snazzy new (but old style) lace up steering wheel cover. The 244 gets new original 52mm gauges, I rig up the oil pressure sensor and gauge and install a new "big" tachometer into the instrument cluster. Finishing off with a spot of Owatrol's "Polytrol Colour restorer" on the rear lights, bumper and trim. Oh and a quick mention about Calcium batteries in older cars.

For the blower motor I was able to dab a bit of high temperature grease on the shaft near the bottom bearing and that freed up things.

That is an exciting tutorial on how to make small fixes both on the 740 & the 240.

Isn’t satisfying fixing things yourself? Top job on the blower motor and cost you virtually nothing where most people would have thrown it away. Great result!

Between here and whiteland restorations, I’m getting a decent volvo fix! The gauges are a perfect fit, I’ll have to show you my plans now that they aren’t needed.. 🤫

My first Volvo (1981 GLT Turbo) had a similar guage layout which I loved. The vacuum guage was labeled "TURBO" which was supposed to correlate with how much turbo boost you were using.

Ay'up buddy hope you're good, the timing of that jazz music was spot on, I know I'd need to listen to a bit when I get round to my 240's heater fan. It sounds like a stuck baby elephant 😂 keep well mate. 🤘
