I got to look around a sub years ago, when my dad took me to Portsmouth, here in the UK. There were some retired submariners leading the tour. They told us that submarines were very hot, smelly and cramped places to live and work in. The modern nuclear subs have better conditions now.
Just to add, the guns on deck would have been waterproof, a plug was usually inserted into the gun barrel to prevent water from entering when the submarine went under water. They would also have been smothered in some type of grease to prevent rusting.

My wife flipped when she saw that sub, Mobile is her home town and she knows that sub well. The walking around happens all day and night, most of down town mobile is hunted, the sister city to New Orleans there is a lot of history.

Thank you Omar my Dad was on a submarine for 2 years during WW11, He was first on the USS Nimitz hit the shores of Hugo Jima and Nagasaki, he was only 18 years old at the time when world war II hit.
I always wondered what a submarine was like on the inside he used to talk about it.Thank you

Go to Patriots Point in Charleston SC. The USS Yorktown is said to be haunted. It was really amazing touring the subs and ships there. We were there many yrs ago and it's still a tourist attraction.
