I remember an app on Play Store which was basically this cellular automata. It was highly configurable - you could change the map size, have multiple cell types (not only on and off) which had different behaviors, eg. cell 0 = turn left; cell 1 = #123456, turn right; cell 2 = #FFFFCC, turn right. You could configure the number of ants, basically it was a perfect Langston's Ant simulation. I don't remember the name now, so I can't tell it.

Also this reminds me STRONGLY of an app called "the powder game" if you have metal in the apple app (its the only virsion I know because I haven't played the actual computer version yet) and you put ants on the metal, the ants will do exactly what the ants will do exactly what the ants in the video are doing. I instantly love that app more now.

Could you make different coulor changing rules, or new cells?
Like a white cell needs to be walked twice before being changed, or a gray cell that makes the ant turn 180 degrees

I need to write this program while I don't have any basis on the graphics in C++. Do you have any hint for me how to do it? I thought about simple movement, but these squares' colors kill me.
