Great video, Petter!

I can definitely relate. After flight school, I sent out a number of applications without any luck. Wanting to gain more experience and stay in the industry, I underwent training to be a flight instructor, and was lucky enough to be given the chance to work full-time doing that at the flight school I had previously attended. Instructing is great fun, but flying the heavy metal across Europe has always been the goal. After nearly a year working as a flight instructor, I "finally" received that precious email telling me I was invited for an interview/assessment for a large airline. Long story short, I will be starting my type rating on the 737 in February, and can't wait!
My tip to those looking for that airline job, don't give up! It can take time, and that also means that your motivation may take a hit. The industry is continuously looking for pilots, even newly qualified ones! Stay in the industry at some level if you can. Consider instructing, towing gliders, or even be a dispatcher! You will be able to make connections while you show your interest for the industry. Of course, to the individuals with more resposibilities (family, etc), this may or may not be feasable economically, but in that case, just flying from time to time in a club might be enough.
And to those that will be attending an interview/assessment soon, just be yourself. Show that you are motivated, keen on learning and doing a good job, and that you are a genuinly friendly yet professional person. My technical interview was far from perfect, yet I got the job. So as Petter said, take a deep breath, and relax. :)

And Petter, looks like we'll become collegues in 2017! :)

Concise and very informative. I especially like ythe "they want you to have the job" view. Never looked at it from that angle but it actually makes perfect sense. Thanks!

Dear Petter! This is a very good and a very useful video. It would be very good, if you make an interview a person who are on the other side of this table. How the applicant can show more attractive for the airline etc. I am also very happy because this is the first time the weather in Spain is worst than in my country here in Hungary. i liked when you were sitting in the beach in December. :) Have a good day!

How do you feel about the recent news about the youngest captain in the UK with easy jet at 26. There's so many people complaining about it but honestly its excellent!! good on them, people just cant understand what the training is like and that they're fully qualified.

Hi Mentour this is Wouter from South-Africa! I hope you are doing absolutley fantastic aswell! Your videos helps to keep the aviation bug alive for me, and ignites my passion, hopes and dreams for flight, and to become an airline pilot. a Plane a day (whether its flying over my house) and a Mentour video a day keeps the avaition bug alive! So now for some questions: I am a 23 year old modular student at my local flight school and have obtained my PPL and Night rating, and working towards my CPL. I have never given much thought on a suitability test. Is it still advisable to do a suitability test, even after completing my PPL/Night rating to make absolutely sure that I will be able to do the job when it becomes more in depth and challenging?
