I don’t think the shaft breaking is a lack of maintenance. It could have been a small hairline crack that split apart when Andy crashed into that massive wave of a wall that even washed out the captain’s wheelhouse windows. Hitting that wave could definitely snap that shaft if it had a weak spot that developed 🤷‍♂️

Andy is way too stubborn and his ego won't allow him to discuss business with his nephew. It's sad that he'd rather fail than set his ego aside and do what's right given the situation he's stuck in.

Those shafts are extremely robust. They break from neglect. Not having zinc and not doing visual inspections. Ultimately its the full time captains job and the engineer to ensure this.

I hope my shaft never gets snapped off!

No matter how bad the situation, you've got to have a plan B. Sitting still and dwelling on a lost prop won't work. A shaft was two weeks out. Another 7-10 days for repairs. Nearly a month. Season will be over and whatever is in those pots will have died. Can't blame Scotty for trying to salvage the season.

I feel the captain. I lost my tug, sunk. Feels like someone gaff hooked your guts onto the deck and you’re watching your own heart pump out…

“Good Solid Hydro Guy” is how he saw his nephew, could care less that Scotty has his 100 ton captains license.

What a way to break down someone’s confident and squash a possible plan B.

Honestly, the whole crabing fleets needs a overhaul and restoration considering how old they are. IMO this whats needs for the ship to have a longer life, but I do feel bad for the crew not making money

Someone had a plan “B” but the Andy was to stubborn to accept so Jonathan is the REAL captain of the time bandit

Tough spot for Scott. If Andy was more developed he could clearly see the logic in saving the quota and making a cut, but sitting at the harbor doing repairs you're making nothing.
Just makes me miss the actual captain of the time bandit :/

Andy seemed to be in panic mode right now. And I get it. He might have been thinking about the boat and future months then just crab season. But that's NOT being a captain. Scott was right to ask Andy about what they were going to do with their crab quota while they still had it. Andy couldn't accept the fact that the Time Bandit was out of the game that season. And if they just held onto the quota, then nobody gets anything. Bad news especially after you get the bill for replacing the prop.

I have seen that happen before. Wow! 😳

So the propeller broke off. Then how did you propel back to the harbor? I'm confused

And that's how Scott got fired from the Time Bandit.

That was really shtty and petty of Andy, and Scotty reacted way more maturely than I ever would. Good on him.

I found one once at Catalina island still had the shart in it too. ( Got a few hundred from a prop shop for it)

I was surprised to learn that Jonathan mentioned that Andy does not know how to read in a previous episode. It was obvious in this clip when Andy was looking at the board with the bells ringing and could not say what bells were ringing except he had no prop. No shade being thrown I just wonder how he was able to pass the tests for his captains license as I am sure there has to be a written portion of the exam.

crazy how quick can things turn from good to bad in those conditions.. he had one prop left, imagine being dead in the water in weather like this.. not good

Imagine being at a football game surrounded by fellow fans and suddenly the whole stadium gets pulled towards the sky and gets tipped sideways tipping everyone out on their backs and onto foreign territory. I imagine that's what it's like being crabs on the Bering sea.
