It's ok. Us 80 IQ folks can just start up a reaction channel.

This is why i have personal issues with people who call certain jobs "not a real job". Like as if people arent freaking trying. I will always appreciate the heck out of any human doing any job.

Thank you so much for helping that young man. I too have a son that is in his forties and IQ in 80's. We finally got him a job as a custodian at a local high school. It's working out wonderfully.

We had a very dedicated elderly man who faithfully volunteered at the zoo for many years.
All he did was rake leaves off the behind the scenes pathways and work areas.
Took home five times as long to do this as it would to do it ourselves, but, his work was incredibly valuable because whatever time it saved our understaffed workforce, his contribution gave us more available time to do all the other tasks.

I worked at a family grocery store that employed many mentally disabled people as courtesy clerks and cart wranglers. I could see how much good it did for their spirits to feel useful and productive. Reclining back and being fed grapes all day seems like winning, but no amount of pleasure and comfort will outweigh that gnawing horror of the idea that you are useful to no one including yourself. Everyone should have work to do, whatever that may look like. It's a core need for our emotional wellbeing.

And people say this guy doesn't care about people. Preposterous honestly.

My adopted daughter is like this but just so kind and loving. She wants to work with dogs too. I really hope this works for her and others like her. Life is not fair.

Did more to help his fellow human in need than ANY of those who try to condemn him as an evil man.

My mother taught children who were very mentally and socially handicapped children in the city for many years . Most of the kids parents were on drugs and the children were dirty and not properly looked after. I remember as a child how much care and time my mother put into looking after them far more than what i would consider a teachers duty, to this day I still have soft spot for people who I believe weren’t given a fair shot . It’s so great you helped this person . Thank you .

As someone who is way too dumb to be working on the job I have, I want to broadcast my sincerest gratitude for all of you who tolerate and sometimes even help those of us who can only try our best.

It really is insane when you put things in perspective like this in regards to how long it can take to actually fix your situation and your life. Sometimes when I was young I was frustrated that things just didn't work out for me instantly and I would harshly blame myself for that causing me to take zero action. It took 3 years for this guy with Dr. Peterson's help and his mothers to find him a job. We really need to be not so harsh on ourselves and attempt to fix our situation the best ways we can.

I spent hours yesterday looking into the "only about 50% of people have an internal monologue"; I find the idea that nearly half of us don't have ongoing, "internally verbalized" thoughts absolutely horrifying...

I couldn't find anything debunking that fact (a couple of studies change the estimated group sizes, but it's between 30%-55% regardless).

I thought it was totally normal to have constant thoughts in the form of full sentences; For half of us it is, I bet the other half is a hell of a lot more comfortable though.

If anybody has participated in the workforce for years, they would know how hard it is to work around other people. Uncaring, treacherous. It's not the job that is hard, it is being around the people that is hard.

Having worked in a place which hired as many of these types of people as they could afford, there are only so many people who have the temperament needed to handle working with these types of people.

Good for that dude for working hard to improve his life. This is the core issue of the “work harder” or “anyone can be trained to do anything” argument. Without the support and real effort from his mother and Dr Peterson that dude is on the street for sure!

And that’s the expression of somebody whose heart is broken, but actively does everything he can to help somebody who desperately needs it.

I sure hope the dog training operation worked out for the guy.

My son has an IQ if 78, and is developmentally disabled. He's only eight now, but I can only hope for a professional to care about him like this in his future...❤
