And this is why you're a successful homesteader. You use what's available first

You can tell who's willing to put on the work for a vision, and who isn't.

Solid foundation and walls? Pretty much immune to rot? Sounds like something worth saving(or at least trying to)

They don’t know what it cost to build one either.

Neighbors said the same thing when we bought our property in 2022. New barn (2019) is beautiful; old barn (1986) looked a bit worse for wear. I checked out the bones of the old barn; really nice 6x6 framing - 2X12 floor & roof joists. We didn't burn it down, we removed the old galvanized metal siding and replaced with new matching panels (matching the new barn). It looks beautiful. Hubby has his barn; I have mine which I use as a greenhouse and woodworking/craft area. We used clear panels for the greenhouse section and put a few in random spots to have natural light in other areas. Now the neighbors have barn envy because we have His n' Hers barns. Don't submit to peer pressure....do what you darn well please....it's YOURS! Can't wait to see the transformation.

I know I've said this before, but the fact that this house is still standing means the bones of the house are still great.

I'm not a contractor, but I am a home owner. That foundation is literally the prettiest thing on that house and is totally worth being saved!

People worry about cosmetics not structure and functionality. It’s a bit of the reason why we’re in the condition we are in as a whole.

I literally just renovated a house that looks exactly like this one does an was in much worse shape ( was missing 3/4 of its roof for many years) the foundation was solid we just gutted the entire thing. Put new floors and roof in, new fuse panel box with a complete rewire of the house. It took 3 weeks to make it liveable, an my buddy is now living there an working on it during the weekends. You made the right choice keeping it!

People forget, this man has been a contractor. He knows how to rebuild houses. More importantly, he *likes* rebuilding houses. Some of you need to chill

It's kind of hard to burn down concrete.😊

Thank you for restoring the building. Restoration over new builds all day.

We're so quick to scrap everything and start over. Salvaging what you can and building up from that is far more worthwhile as an experience, I think.

After a new roof and floor, windows, etc, you should definitely pressure wash off all the old paint and give it a fresh coat of some really high quality exterior paint/finish

This house was once someone’s pride and joy. Be it ever so humble, there’s no place like home.

Revitalizing a structure is not just about making it livable, it’s the opportunity to manifest the good energy trapped in the damage and decay. Only visionaries see the beauty and potential of what lies beneath and within.

Thanks for not listening to everybody else I think it is savable. So many people tear things down that can be used anymore and I'm with you I think it can be saved

I love bringing an old house back to life. In doing one right now myself. Its from 1945, the floors were completely shot. All new floor joists, plywood down, new walls, updated electrical. Its awesome standing back and seeing the process and progress on it
