I don't know anybody who thought he sung this song with his own parents in mind.
The overwhelming impression was always that it was him warning a girls parents that in a dating scenario of what he could be towards their daughters no matter how protective they were.

Dude how could people not know. “Mother. Tell your children not to hear my words, what they mean, what they say” he’s talking about protective parents who tried to ban music because it had adult themes. A lot of artists at the time were facing possible felony charges for obscenity just for making and playing their music. A total slap on the face to freedom of speech. That’s what it’s about.

Mother has NEVER been vague. NO ONE ever thought it was about his parents. Danzig does not hide what his music is about. Except the songs with spells lol.

In Mother, he’s not talking about HIS parents.

People remember the PRMC story with such fondness, as the “great stand” against censorship. It was, but it is chickenshit compared to the censoring done now. Words changed, omitted, or whole channels/plate forms deleted for an arbitrary “strike”.

In 1988 I was listening to some music, my dad walked in, heard the lyrics, and told me that I should think about what I'm listening to. By the age of 17 I had earned that level of respect from my dad. I remember what song it was, but I don't remember most of the lyrics because I haven't listened to it since then.

the meaning of this song was clearly obvious to me the first time I heard it when I was a teenager... I feel like everyone who was into that kind of music understood it perfectly

it fits with kind of the whole ethos of the misfits (and ofc Danzig eventually, etc.). ie more than the music it was an early fandom community of macabre, socially awkward geeks (you know, like your typical, uh... misfits). young people who might've been judged or made fun of for being into shit like dark/creepy comics and old horror/sci fi movies.

especially in the 70s-90s, a lot of kids like that grew up with possibly religious, pearl clutching mothers who would have burned an album they found in their kids' room because of the skull on the cover, and god forbid any of them ever happened to hear the lyrics to 'last caress'

a big part of their 'brand' involved directly appealing to kids like that with the offer of a community of other weirdos who would understand, accept, and appreciate their weirdness:

if you’re gonna scream, scream with me...

No one ever thought Danzig was addressing his own parents in this song. He is addressing the mother of an innocent girl he is corrupting, hence the line “Mother, gonna take your daughter out tonight, gonna show her my world”

Kind of representative of society at large too, that no matter how protective parents are, you can’t keep your kids innocent forever. Especially if they WANT to be corrupted.

"Skulls" was written about his mom though, when his mom was a little girl, he's an eternal being

Danzig has such a great voice, it’s a shame he didn’t do more songs with that intensity

Never gave much thought to the actual meaning. I just loved the groove and vocals... and that guitar solo!!!

I definitely saw the anti-sensorship meaning behind it though.

I may not agree with Danzig on every point but I believe it's about freedom. You can't stop us from being free to do what we do whether it's creative or destructive❣️
