In the final days of the Second World War, the Allies were liberating many different concentration camps. The British when they liberated Bergen-Belsen were greeted with a scene of pure depravity and death, as thousands of corpses lay around the camp. Also many prisoners were dying from diseases, but there were a number of SS guards who were captured there. Josef Kramer, the Beast of Belsen and the Commandant was arrested, as were over 20 female guards who worked there. Many of these women had worked at other camps such as Auschwitz and Ravensbruck, and had a long history of brutality, violence and execution.

Irma Grese who was considered one of the most brutal yet youngest guards was later executed for her crimes, as was Elisabeth Volkenrath and Juana Bormann who was known as 'The Woman With The Dog.' Many other women guards who were arrested were accused of violent attacks, beatings, killing and inflicting great misery onto prisoners. They were responsible for the terrible conditions of Belsen in which thousands were dying each week. But many of the female guards of Bergen-Belsen were given weak prison sentences and were released years later despite being convicted of crimes against humanity.

My father's unit liberated Bergen Belsen and he had lied about his age to fight. He was a 16 year old boy facing that and he never told us till we his children had joined the military. His tears made sense as to the sleepless nights he had. He saw man's inhumanity to man....and he hated Germans for the rest of his life. God bless you old man for fighting for freedom and miss you.

My father was in the Canadian Army stationed at Essen. At one point they were tasked with going to Belsen and tearing down most of what was left of it. I have a photo of him standing beside an oven before they destroyed it and photos of places they would murder inmates in a way you don’t want to hear about. When they would break for a mealtime they would go into town to the pubs. Oh no, they had no idea what was going on there. BS 🤬. There were also British soldiers with them who had helped liberate the camp who said they could smell it long before they arrived there. Also they found names of people living in the town whose names were in the pay ledger of the camp. YES THEY KNEW EXACTLY WHAT WAS GOING ON! The only function of women in the SS was to be guards in concentration camps. Some Canadian soldiers did marry German women while stationed there. One afternoon they were having a baby shower for one woman. There was another of the German women who was late. They got a knock on the door and when they opened it there was this woman wearing an SS uniform, clicked her heels, gave the Nazi salute and said “H*** ( won’t type that) . Mom said they carried her out on a stretcher to a waiting ambulance, she was beaten so badly. As far as I’m concerned, for every female guard in the camps, if they weren’t executed all the others should have been prison at hard labour for the rest of their natural lives. No mercy.

My grandmother remembers when she had to eat the rations the soldiers gave her, but only in small amounts and at certain times spread out throughout the day so she wouldn't die from being so malnourished. I cannot imagine how much pain her and her fellow inmates were in throughout the Holocaust. My grandfather (also a survivor) helped her and himself heal physically as much as possible when it came to food and medicine.

Can't imagine the hopelessness and horror, and brutality so many people experienced during WW2.

Those who worked in the camps but not executed should have had the swastika tattooed on their forehead.

I took a deep dive into the women guards at these concentration camps, and it made me happy beyond belief to realize that they were executed by hanging, and it even showed some of these women swinging in the wind, just reward for evil

This channel is amazing and a breath of fresh air. The research, delivery and passion make for one of the best current channels IMO. I could watch this for hours on end rather than thirst traps or shitty set up boxing. Keep up the good work

My Great Uncle was a Survivor of the holocaust. When the camp was Liberated he only weighed 60 some odd lbs! Close to death and made it out alive! I can't even begin to fathom what horrors they went through!

The father of a very good friend of mine was at the liberation of Belsen. She told me what her mother had told her, that when he got back home after the war, he had the most terrible nightmares...kicking out and shouting ....the things he had seen gave him nightmares for many years. What cruelty for humans to inflict on others.

My Father was one of the soldiers who helped liberate the poor prisons at this camp. Dad was so shocked at the suffering there that had a breakdown. He had a bad water infection from being in the trenches, and was a physical wreck when he returned home.
