We get our hands on the new DJI Osmo, an interesting handheld stabilized camera that makes use of the gimbal and camera from DJI's Inspire 1 quadcopter. Think of it as a portable steadycam. We show you how the Osmo works, how it pairs with your phone for live previewing, and give you a demo of its capabilities.

i like the part when the camera was angled to the right about 15 degrees for the whole time.

cool idea, but the camera quality is just outright unacceptable. I'm glad you guys uploaded this video before I purchased it.

@tested was the walk around audio from the Osmo or was it external?

I bought an Inspire 1 about 6 months ago and up to now I have been really impressed. I was flying the Phantom 2 plus which was also great but the advanced Inspire 1 did a whole lot more. The Phantom is much easier to land and is better at close flying even though the Inspire can achieve double the amount of satellites. I still have both machines. Anyway I didn't realise that the Osmo came with the camera attached. It's the same camera as the Inspire 1. There didn't seem any use buying the whole kit when I had the most expensive part already. I contacted DJI about buying the handle separately. They came back with this about an hour ago. Thank you for contacting DJI Technical Support.
sorry to tell you that we cann't provide the handle separately now, you know the osmo is published only one day
but dji will provide this product later, pls wait patiently

Thank you for choosing DJI.

Best Regards,

This would be fun to try as a vlogging camera. The stabilization is incredible.

awesome video, one question were the mics recorded via the osmo input port or was it recorded separately?

What lav mics are you using, and how did you
hook them both to the Osmo? Great intro guys!

Omg this in 60fps would have been so much better! Still a good video!

Looks a great camera and excellent images. Can you explain how you achieved such good audio please when you were walking in the streets?

I ordered and received the osmo and was pretty upset about the camera picture being tilted like our inspire 1 x3 camera (firmware issues) but after I calibrated everything it worked fine. Picture quality is pretty decent, it is better than the x3 that's comes with the inspire 1

This is a pretty amazing combo for the price. $650 for the base 4k cam with the stabilizer handle. I have the FeiyuTech 3 axis gimbal ($450) and the GoPro Hero 4 Black ($500) So it cost me $950 for a much less superior setup. Add the X5 cam and you literally have a cinema quality setup for a little more. (yes they did need calibrate this and optimize cam settings in this demo)

It looks very good, with the exception of all the lens flair.

My question is about the audio. Are you attached to a microphone or is the audio coming from the camera which is amazing if it is.

i like it, fps seemed a little low when you first turned it on, seemed like less fisheye then the go pro. i like the button function. how does the weight and balance feel?

I'd like to see a test with an ND.6 and a "Meinardis"-type snoot on the lens and an HMI fill for the players. I'm impressed that this can also pan and tilt independent of automatic horizon-rooted image stabilization- but is there a remote available if the operator wanted to say, put this on a jib-crane, or a weather balloon?

Guys, was the sound from the camera? Or you recorded it separatly?

The film you made is really helpful. I'm just wondering about buying OSMO but I still need one more important information. Like osmo camera burns fire flames, heated steel, etc. I am an artistic blacksmith and I want to film in a forge. This is a completely different kind of lighting. Wonder if this sports camera will do better than Go Pro?

Looks like vlogging future has arrived.

Did you do some framerate conversion on this video? Playback is juttery as all heck. If you shoot in 60 and upload in 30 for example you halve the shutter angle making motion appear less smooth. And if you go to 25 or 24 from 60 or to 30 from 50 things really become a mess where the time difference between frames isn't constant.
