HANDLING the BIGGEST Wolf Spider I've Ever SEEN

Here at MyWildBackyard we investigate the secrets of the natural world- secrets that can be hidden in our very own backyards! I want to share the incredible world of insects, spiders and other wildlife with you and inspire you to explore your curiosity. Get out there, and find your adventure!

For those who read the description- we've updated the channel! I'm working on adding more features to videos to better expand our conversations about the secrets we find in the natural world! Introducing the Creature Tier System! There are four rankings:
1. Staple - These are the lowest tier creatures. They are the most common species in a given habitat, and while they're not boring, they're really only exciting when you're exploring a new habitat and you haven't seen them before. Not something to write home about.
2. Neat - These are a step up from Staple. They don't make your entire day, but they are worth taking a closer look at when found. Definitely can be exciting to have a productive day finding many Neat species.
3. Wild - These are exciting to find. Whether they have interesting defensive features that offer a nice challenge in the field, are particularly cool looking, or maybe a little bit rare, Wild species aren't necessarily the MOST memorable of encounters, but they definitely make your day when you see them. An adventure featuring many Wild species will truly be memorable.
4. Gem - These are special. Usually involving extremely interesting biology and significant rarity, Gem species are animals that you really do not see every day. These species can make your whole adventure, and will be very memorable.

Found a male wolf spider in my basement yesterday. I actually had to rub my eyes because I couldn't believe what I was seeing at first. I managed to get him in my hand and he even allowed me to pet him a bit. Never tried to bite, but he was fast as hell. Never knew such a large spider could move so fast.

I had a female wolf spider in our apartment that was as big as a man's hand with hundred of babies on her back. Her body was 3" from carapace to spinnerets, don't include her long legs

I have a TONNE of respect for you, young man. You teach people to respect and to try not to fear spiders as much. People are very quick to destroy what scares them, without thinking of their important role in our environment. Always interesting, and sometimes creepy, videos!!! 💯% RESPECT!!!👍🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Absolute beauty of a spider! Wish I had big wolfies locally.

I agree with The Room of Arachnids that this looks like Hogna lenta, and also might be the biggest lycosid I’ve ever seen. That is one impressive spider, I couldn’t think of a better subject to feature on the channel. I would love to film a wolf spider that big one day, and I’m glad you were able to find one even in the colder conditions. Great work man!

Your channel is one of if not the best channels I watch. I am not sure what search brought your channel across my feeds. But you give so much information about spiders and other animals. Thank you for your time and effort.

I've got a big wolfy underneath my trailer down here in florida. She keeps all the cockroaches in check. Love her

Holy crap bro. That is damn near a tarantula. I know they are cousins or something closely related but this is a monster. When you can hear a spider running through the brush, leaves or grass. It's a biggin!

Dang, she's huge! That was so cute when she crawled onto your hand. ✋💛

Her just deciding to cut the crap and crawl straight onto your hand, and you simply responding with "that'll work", got a genuine laugh outta me.

You two meant Business!

Thanks to your channel, I was able to spot a grey wolf spider in the grass I was about to mow (Boston exurb). Turned the mower off, said "Cool spider!", put my hand down next to him/her (not sure of gender), let them climb on, walked to an already mowed area with spider passenger, put my hand down, had to encourage them to get off (I guess they liked my body heat). Cool critters. Glad I didn’t mow this one.

I'm trying so hard to get over my arachnophobia and this channel has helped A LOT. Just seeing a wolf spider used to fill me with so much dread and anxiety but I was able to watch this entire video only getting slightly uncomfortable. It's almost kind of cute. I'll probably freak the fuck out next time I see one in person but that's besides the point lmao

I used to hate these, but they're just so cute. I grew to love them and they look super cute hahaha!

The diversity of nature is incredible compared to what we may think it is. Like we think the spider in this video is the only species of wolf spider, but there are over 2300 species of wolf spiders! Crazy!
