I totally relate to this as second language speaker of French, sometimes certain phrases sound so good that you say them when you really don't want to. But that is so embarrassing

He should not call someone - forget only an opponent party leader to his own although anyone on a business or political intervew should not call the other 'friend' unless its a very informal casual relationship. This was actually a political/business call. I am a casual guy in many ways although that I would not do for my own good
