I was at the airport in Amsterdam and overheard these kids from England and chatting with two other kids from the United States. Shockingly the English had more knowledge about American history which includes black history and our American kids just stood there looking dumb. I remembered this English kid asking another American kid if he knows who Jackie Robinson was, American kid had no idea. As an American overhearing these kids chats among themselves, I felt embarrassed for our US kids sounding confused and ignorant.. most parents don't know the negative impact their decisions of not wanting kids to learn all of American history are having on their kids..

I’m a white parent and I don’t believe in book banning or burning. I do believe in making sure whatever book my child is reading is age and content appropriate.

I read an article that examined book banning. It said that all the complaints filed, about 1000 of them, were filed by 7 people.
