In this video I will explain the order of operations to simplifying an algebraic expression. 1) simplify inside the parentheses first (from the inside out), 2) exponents are next, 3) multiplication and division next from left to right, and 4) addition and subtraction are last from left to right.

This video was the highlight of my day. I discovered the acronym GEMA (grouping, exponent etc) which seems to help.

Please check your explanation for the rule governing the addition and subtraction. This is because
4-3+5 can be written as -3+(4+5) or (5-3) +4 which gives the same answer as 6. In the first case of my answer, I group like terms(positive and negative) and the second case . I rearranged the expression because -minus signs affect the numbers they're closest to moving to the right.
