really creative ideas, and the turned out fab! I gave my niece a sewing machine this year, so I do have a couple tips that I shared with her, that might help you, too (honestly, think most new sewers have the same tendencies - I remember doing these way back in the day): 1) don't pull the fabric as it is going through the machine - I know it feels like it is giving you more control, but it really isn't - makes it harder to get straight seams, can mess up the tension of the stitches resulting in puckering, and can even damage the machine. the hand behind the needle has no pressure. guiding it in from the front is what gives your a straight seam. maybe go slower to start or practice with a magnetic guide. It's kinda like learning how to back up a car :-D 2) when you're pinning a garment, turn it inside out so that the excess is naturally in the seam allowance - so much less work and less likely to get out of whack 3) if you don't have a seam ripper, it is easier/safer to cut through a tiny spot, then pull the 2 pieces of fabric away from each other to expose the thread holding the seam together. then cut THAT - so less likely to nick and ruin the actual fabric you're trying to keep. Can't wait to see what you do next.
