Lyrics
Hey fellas
I'm talking to you you and you too
Do you guys know who I'm talking to?
Those of you who go out and stay
Out all night and half the next day
And expect us to be home
When you get there

But let me tell you something
The sisters are not going for that no more
Cause we realize two things;
That you aren't doing anything for us
We can do better by ourselves
So from now on we gonna use
What we got to get what we want
So you'd better think, think

It was the time when we haven't met?
That's the thing I never will forget
Now baby I got a whole lot to give
And a whole lotta loving
That a woman could give yeah

But before I give it up I gotta think think
Think what the future holds for me
Just go ahead and see
I don't need no heartache
I can't stand no misery
Let me think think

Without James Brown there's no Rob Base, no Eric B., no Run DMC, no Hammer, no Bruno, no Prince, no Time, no Michael, no Janet, no Justin, no P-Funk, no AWB, no Roger/Zapp, no Chic, no Heatwave - no funk and no hip-hop. There can be only one Godfather!

Lyn Collins is by far the most sampled female artist of all time, with portions of her recordings used in well over 3, 500 songs. (I think this one alone has been sampled 3, 499 times.) 😁 That would mean she has been sampled every 4 days for 40 years. Incredible.

I know the Amen Break is the staple influence of DnB but this song is a very close second

This has James Brown signature all over it: deep bass, funky/rappish voice and drumming style. Lyn Collins is James Brown's female re-incarnation and I like it!

It's not just the thousands of samples that have been derived from this, it's the whole arrangement, the drops are perfect, for gods sake this is 1972. This track is virtual perfection with not a single sampler in sight.

I don’t think people realize how instrumental this song was to the creation of hip hop.
