He wanted them to quit . This is his way of making them leave before he has to pay for unemployment.

This was either genius or pure luck .
He got rid of internal saboteurs .

THAT IS AN ABSOLUTE WIN. If somebody quits because you told them they have to earn their paycheck then you just won twelve hundred times over. If they're triggered by work imagine the deceitful dishonest personality they must be. That was a massive VICTORY. I wish they would do that with yootoob, maybe we wouldn't be censored and shadow banned 99% of our comments.

If you “lost” 1, 000 employees that weren't keen on working long hours in person, that likely cost $100, 000 a year each or more— what is the loss of moving these people down the road?

In my view, the company will now have financial resources to backfill where resources are needed.

His “unreasonable demand” was come to the office and put in a 40 hour work week.

These people are getting paid 6 figures or more. The free meals were costing thousands per person because only 10% of employees were actually using it.

I had 2 employees who came to work at 9am and left before 1pm and billed me for 10 hours. I got a call form a client at 1PM, "office is locked, you said office will be open till 6PM". I said wait right there, I will be there in 30 minutes. I went to the office, and sure he was there and office was locked. I did not say anything to the 2 employees until they sent me their time sheet and claimed they had worked 9 to 6 and then I fired them both for give fraudulent time sheets. I asked them if time sheet was accurate, and they confirmed yes, not knowing I had gone to the office at 1:30pm. Twitter and all the other tech companies have the same problem, employees are not working 40 hrs a week and they cant be fired without severance etc, thanks to DOL.

90% of the workforce leaves and Twitter operates at full capacity still. Reminds me of every government shutdown

The reality is that there were probably 300 people among the 7500 doing any actual work and they were all frustrated by the other 7200, who only made the work more difficult.

The ones that left were the ones who don't want to work ... that saves EM from sacking them. Win win

"Earlier this month the company said that it was cutting about 50% of its workforce" - Good job Elon

Not a bad thing. Twitter needs to be treated like a business and not a sorority house. It is better to have an empty seat fora while than a toxic employee who infects morale.

The fact that the toxic, self-entitled employees are weeding themselves out is sheer brilliance.

I think that was Elons point. He wants the old blood gone.

The dirty secret of Twitter is that there's really only a couple of dozen employees that are necessary to develop and maintain the service.

Best way to get rid of unproductive employees 👌

All of those employees leaving, one way or the other, and still Twitter continues to function, simply proves how much dead wood the company was carrying.

Twitter was a social club, not a profitable business. Probably could run the whole business with 500 people and some good tech.

Remember, they DEMANDED that he buy the company.

as for those who quit, they are replaceable. all he has to do is reach out for people who will work with him- plenty will. and if he moves his company to Texas or Florida, he will find a whole lot of people who will gladly support him.
