Ymir's awakening is one of the most moving moments for her character. Unlike other titans that we know so far, she has the desire to be free and have the freedom to choose. which seems to be one of the underlying storytelling of the anime.

Ymir’s theme is so haunting and beautiful. The thinking that the female titan was Armin’s mom is so random and funny it kills me 😂.

As someone who’s read the manga (and knows how it all ends) i definitely think AOT is that kind of show that gets better on the second watch. Yes you know most of the jaw-dropping revelations that made it so great in the first watch, but you also realize how the creator had it all laid out from the very beginning. I was a little disappointed with the ending but thanks to your rewatch i now realize it all makes sense and the end is very fitting. Can’t wait for everyone to catch up and appreciate the last episodes when the anime concludes later this year!

Ymir's backstory wasn't shown this early in the manga, it was only shown during season 3 or season 4 stuff IIRC. But I think it works really well here in season 2, it makes later stuff more clear.
