AI deepfakes may advance misinformation in upcoming elections | BBC News

Artificial intelligence tools make it easy and fast to create convincing fake videos.

AI has already been used to disrupt elections around the world - and there are fears among senior politicians and the security services that the UK will be next.

If social media is flooded with synthetic images and text - even if it is clearly labelled as such - some experts fear voters could reach the point where where they no longer know what is real or not.

The media, the tech giants, the security services - and the political parties - will all have to grapple with this challenge at the next general election.

I keep seeing fake ads featuring politicians and celebrities. They are easy for me to spot and I hope that’s true for everyone else.

Don't life insurance companies already hire life risk assessors to determine the cost of a person's life insurance policy? So how would this AI be any different from that? Seems they would both have access to the same amount of information?

Im very very anti regulation whenever practical but creating deep fakes for malicious intent should absolutely be illigal! I don't support laws restricing the creation of deep fakes but yes certainly there needs to be some type of copyright type laws or defamation type laws that penalize people involved in the posting of deep fakes without express consent from the person being immitated. And i can't really see how the implementation of such laws could result in any unwanted negative consequences

I was born in Dallas Oregon. Its a beautiful little town in the Pacific Northwest where my step brother and his family still reside. I also still live just an hour away but have not been there in a number of years and had no clue Google had a data center there. Interesting. Maybe this is another reason bill gates is buying up farmland?

In this Era of AI I don't know what to trust again, maybe I to stop using smart phone and deal with people directly
