10 Weeks Pregnant - What to Expect

Показать описание
Your embryo is now a fetus, with bones and cartilage, an operational stomach and kidneys and even a four-chambered heart.
Transcript:
Here's some big news: At week 10, your little one graduates from embryo to fetus. Already an inch-and-a-half long, and a quarter ounce in weight, that fetus is growing by leaps and bounds. And in gearing up for those first leaps, and bounds and baby steps, bones and cartilage are forming, and small indentations on the legs are developing into knees and ankles. Even more unbelievably for someone the size of a prune, teensy arms can bend, thanks to even teensier elbows.
Your baby's eyes are hidden behind sealed lids and won't function until later in the second trimester. But a button nose is visible, and the external parts of the ears have started to grow low down on baby's head. Twenty tiny baby teeth buds are in place beneath the gums, though you won't see any pearly whites until your little one is about 6 months old.
Baby stomach and kidneys are operational now, churning out digestive juices and urine. The heart is now fully functional, with four chambers: Two ventricles pump blood to the lungs and body, while the two atria receive blood from baby's circulation.
Have you noticed blue lines suddenly crisscrossing your breasts and abdomen? What you're seeing is the expanded network of veins that's carrying the increased blood supply needed to nourish your growing fetus. Don't feel blue. Like so many other changes to your skin, they're only temporary.
