Going Home for the Holidays Should Be Beautiful

For 44% of LGBTQ+ people, they feel they can't go home as their true selves. In this moving video, members of the Trans Chorus of Los Angeles share their moments of going home, all set to a soundtrack of their rendition of "I'll Be Home for Christmas." Pantene has partnered with GLAAD, and they are committed to telling stories of transformation, and show a more inclusive world that emanates a holistic definition of beauty. Whenever, wherever, however you go home, going home should be #BEAUTIFULGBTQ.

Well that just made me tear up. I tell my kids every day that I love them for who they are and NOTHING would ever change that.

This year is the first time that I am excited about going to Christmas with my family. There was a breaking point last year with them, and I was walking around my Aunt’s house and my youngest cousin corrected my aunt on her use of pronouns. He looked her dead in the face and said “It’s a boy” and she just looked dumbfounded. She had always claimed that she didn’t want them to “be confused” by calling me my name, or calling me by male pronouns, then one of those very kids looked at her and told her no.

This past Thanksgiving my uncle from that side called me my name for the first time, and one of my cousins finally had to accept that he was wrong about me.

So I am happy about Christmas. I won my fight against my family, to finally get what I needed. Acceptance for being who I am.

When my mom came out 28 years ago her family did not accept her or her partner. As a result the family became broken and no family should become broken because of who they love.

Remember it isn't just going home for the holidays lgbt+ people feel they can't do. A lot of lgbt+ live at home and can't come home as themselves on a day to day basis.
