Mom Got Sick, and We Had to Leave Her in Germany

This month was a whirlwind of big moments, challenges, and milestones for our family! It started with a tough situation during our travels. We were wrapping up an incredible holiday trip to Germany and Italy, but Jess’s ear infection made it impossible for her to travel back home. With a heavy heart, she stayed behind in Germany to recover while Garrett managed the journey back to Hawaii with all three kids. Jess, you’re a rockstar for powering through and rejoining us soon after—our family isn’t complete without you.

Back home, Dorothy had her big moment in a community play! This wasn’t just any school production—she auditioned and earned her role, and her performance lit up the stage. Seeing her beam with happiness and confidence made us so proud. One of the best parts? She got to share the experience with her best friend, making it even more special.

Then came Manilla’s adventure—a Mario Kart tournament that started as just a fun idea but turned into a thrilling ride! Competing against over 80 kids, including hardcore gamers, Manilla not only held his own but rose to the challenge. Watching him advance through each round, face setbacks, and ultimately win the entire tournament was an emotional rollercoaster for all of us. Seeing Dorothy cheer him on so passionately made the moment even sweeter. Manilla, your determination and hard work paid off, and we couldn’t be prouder of you!

And finally, we celebrated Cali’s 7th birthday! From cinnamon rolls and bacon for breakfast to a perfect day at the beach and video games, it was everything he wanted. Watching him embrace his new "big kid" status and hearing him say he’s ready to take on the waves without holding our hand was a bittersweet reminder of how fast time flies. Cali, we’re so proud of the incredible person you’re becoming—happy birthday, buddy!

This month reminded us of the joy, growth, and love that come with every stage of family life. Thank you for joining us on this journey and letting us share these special moments with you. It’s all about family!

I really find it hard to believe that a kid as capable, smart, kind, and good-looking as Manilla could ever be insecure or lack confidence-- but people don't always see themselves the way other people do. Your family is so talented. 7 years old, I remember when Cali was just a baby at the beach. Can't believe it has been that long. If Manilla had gotten in the top 20 it would have been great, dude won it all, that is just awesome. I cannot believe that Cali is 7 years old!!! The fact that there was no video of him crying this year because he's sad he's not gonna get to be his previous age anymore just shows how old he's getting! And I don't know why I am so sad about it 😭😭

1) Dorothy was born to be an actress. She can do anything she sets her mind to. 2) As she was skying so fearlessly, I immediately thought, she’s going to be in the Olympics. 3) She’s so good in soccer and football. She could be a professional in anything she chooses. 4) I’m really happy for her. 😊

Congratulations Dorothy!!!🎉 My daughter started theater when she was 12 in school, then moved on to community. It's her great love and passion! She's now 37 and has accomplished so much with plays, musicals, commercials, TV and just finished filming her 1st big screen film with Jason Momoa and David Bautista. I flew on a plane once with a sinus infection and it was literally the WORST pain I have ever felt in my life from all the pressure in my ears. Totally feel for Jess on that initial flight! 😢

It's crazy that Manilla won, especially because y'all don't even own a TV!! It's so cool that he can still succeed in something like video games without being glued to a screen all the time. It's incredible how well-rounded your kids are. Also, as a theater kid, I love how much Dorthy is glowing in her play. She did so good!

Aww. I also got sick on holiday right after new years. It's still going around at work now. I had to get from Switzerland to Munich by train while I was sick. Then went to the village store and got free juice for my flu. People are really nice here
