My high school nurse used to send me home all the time. Didn’t matter the reason she’d ask “ do you wanna go home?” Always yes and she insisted on me going home a couple times too. Absolute legend

My mom has always worked at home (pre-covid) and once she told me “you’re sick today, ok?” And I got to sleep in, then we went out to eat lunch, got our nails done, and went shopping. Literally the best day ever. I didn’t have much going on in school either (I was in middle school). But if I want to go home, she will tell me “I’ll be there in 10” and she comes. Absolute legend. I usually try not to skip school unless I have to, and my teachers don’t care because I try hard, make good grades, and do my work

This is so true I have arthritis and the sport teachers never believe me or say I'm over exaggerating. Arthritis is way more painful than you think, even one of the most painful experiences in the world

School nurse at my old school would just be like, “are you bleeding?” “Visible injuries?” “Missing a leg?”

If not. Back to class you go.

I used to pretend to be sick to stay home cuz I was too depressed to see other people. Eventually I started telling my mom how I really felt and she would let me stay home most of the time

I got sick once, felt horrible. The nurse usually didn't like me but a different one was there. She took my temp and just said here's a note and mom's on the way. Legend

Literally my mum. she called the school nurse after I had had a really sore stomach and told them that everytime I come into the nurses office, no matter why, they were to call her or they would have big problems.

I love my mum 🥰

My immune system got very low at one point and I was sick all the time, almost every week I was sick from something new and the principal knew. But the nurse, when I'd ask her to take my temperature she'd say "no. You're not even sick just go back to class" and I told my teacher at one point and she told me to go back up. There was a sub secretary and she said "____ your little friend is back again" when I walked up. The nurse refused to take my temperature and it turned out I had walking pneumonia. She did this everytime I went up there, every year.

Probably TMI, but story time!

All throughout school (elementary to high), I would get these random vomiting episodes. It would start with a horrendous burp that smelled like rotten eggs. After awhile, I knew exactly what that meant: in about 30 minutes the contents of my stomach would be all over the place. And like clockwork, sure enough, the floors, trashcans, etc would be coated in a layer of school pizza and last night's dinner.

Nurses rarely believed me. So many times I was sent back to classes multiple times because they always thought I was faking since I didn't have a fever. My mom even thought I was pulling everyone's leg. She finally believed me when she pulled up to the school to find me projectile vomiting across the pavement in a crowd of kids trying to get on their buses.

I feel bad for the janitors that had to clean all that up. Locker room floors, bathroom sinks, hallways, etc. That sucker was violent. Years later, I was diagnosed with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (a connective tissue disorder), and people with that sometimes tend to have gastroparesis (where the vagus nerve doesn't work properly, so your food doesn't digest as quickly. It just sort of piles up until it has nowhere else to go but back up. All those breakfasts, lunches, and dinners on school days weren't that far apart, so it made sense). Now that I'm not constantly shoving entire meals in my mouth every few hours, it hasn't happened since graduating.

Point is, don't always write off a kid who says they don't feel well. God knows those ice packs didn't do shit when there were chunks of bagel bits coming out of my nose from all that forceful vomiting (true story).

What great memories I'll always cherish. 😅

Honestly having the nurse and teachers doubt you were sick and having your parents come in less then 5 minutes was a power move
