I'm 70 y/o and never going to go sailing around the world and will never again need all the clothing layers you showed but I still watched your entire video because you're favorite channel on YT. I would watch you guys reciting "Mary had a little lamb" for 20 minutes.

Did you guys know that possum fur is hollow? Each tiny fibre is like a tube which has amazing insulation and with its softness is so warm. We have possum socks, and jackets which we bought in New Zealand. They are a protected animal here in Australia but are a pest in New Zealand.

Just the balls !living up in the Northeast of the states your spot on . layer, layer, layer .what is the best part of this is the fact your passing on tried and true examples that work .Not sure if you have used night time ski goggles or not but they work great in fog, they have a pink lenses, my last pair was made by Oakley .Those little wool booties you have are what we call felts, any one who works outside in below zero has them . So here's to you two for sailing into suntan future days . may your days be easy, may you know no pain and may you care and love each other until the cows come home .

Wow, what an episode. Loved your systematic approach and explanations. If I was a vendor, I would be begging you two to use my product. They certainly got their money's worth and you educated and entertained us - win/win!

Amen guys, I work as a lift operator at a ski resort and usually wear 5 layers. Most of my stuff is Helly Hanson and works great. Thanks!

My mom sewed two down sleeping bags from kits bought from Holubar, in 1972 for Christmas gifts for my brother and me. They have 4 pounds of goose down. I've backpacked quite a lot and have slept outside in the winter in temperatures in the range of 30 below zero F and once in a snow cave where there was lots of concern about water dripping on the bag. Down is wonderful! I also used the bags while sailing here in Colorado in the summertime and usually slept on top of the bag to avoid overheating. For fifty year old sleeping bags they are amazing. My brother quit using his but we'd had mom install the zippers so they could be zipped together and my wife and I have used them many many times in the zipped together form. You two have convinced me we need to get our hands on a bunch of merino wool thermals (soccer season in Colorado for several months is extremely cold!) Thank you for this great video!

I have the same issue with my ears hurting in the cold. I think I need some of those ear things. Thank you for this video! Very helpful. I'll probably be referring back to it.

What a fun and informative video. You guys just keep raising the bar. After years of working outside in the ski industry and couple of years working underwater, I have been able to adapt the layering principle to just about any condition. Now, as I try to extend my open boat cruising season in the Northeast I need to adapt again. I have come away from this vid with some leads to chase down. Thank you! and keep being awesome.😎

Nice to hear "layers" been mentioned over and over again, because this is what it is all about keeping warm in arctic climate, layers! Great video with important information. And also mentioned, is the important of air between the layers, this is where many go wrong to put on to many layers, without air between them. This is a comment to the subscribers, not to Uma, because they now know what they are talking about.

Omg you found felt wool booties! In Finnish we call them Huopatossut, and there's nothing more warm, and durable during the winter for your feet, they are Awesome! Wear them with knitted woollen socks and you are set for life in cold :D

I love you guys! You are so fun to watch and listen to. :) Yours were the first ever "binge watch" videos of my life so you'll always have a special place in my heart. May God continue to bless you and keep you both safe - and may you continue to share your nomad lives with us. 💕⛵⚓

A few years ago I discovered merino wool fluffy jackets. They also pack down pretty small and are lightweight. I don’t know exactly what it is but they do feel nicer than synthetic ones. Like all merino wool clothes they handle getting wet pretty well. If it is not too cold, let’s say >10° C, I can even wear them in rain without a rain jacket as they still provide ok insulation while almost soaked (this is with a merino base layer and a neoprene-like fleece under the merino jacket).

Great summary of what you need. We have found that Sealskinz are great for head, hands and feet. Also tend to use a balaclava to make sure that neck gets protection as well as head. Slowly catching up on this year’s journeys, work got in the way sadly - much more fun to follow your adventures and dream!!! ⛵️
