There is a catchphrase that is actually inspired by a real life athlete’s catchphrase. Throughout the movie, there are a couple of times when Lightning McQueen says a catchphrase, which is “float like a cadillac, sting like a beemer”. This is alluding to the catchphrase to legendary boxer, Muhammad Ali. Ali’s catchphrase was “float like a butterfly, sting like a bee”. This catchphrase was made popular during his rookie years, which links to McQueen using a version of the phrase during his own formative years as a racecar.

I think his whole personality was somewhat based off of Muhammad Ali. He had the vibe of being liable and cocky at the same time like Ali did.
