How to capture system audio in a Teams Live Event - Microsoft Teams Tip Tuesday

Microsoft Teams Live Events don't have the "share system audio" feature that regular Teams Meetings do. To work around this, you just need an HDMI capture device and to physically connect the presenter's device to the producer's device so you can get the screen AND audio. This video shows you how that's all hooked up and configured!

this is helpful John. I have a Blackmagic ATEM Mini switcher, which allows a 'producer' to manage multiple HDMI inputs (presenter laptop, external DSLR, etc.). In some cases, I will be both producer and presenter. I can cut/dissolve from one to another - that's all great. But I'm confused about how to manage audio. Suppose I am the presenter. If I am mic'd up with a lav mic or desktop mic, plugged into my presentation machine, how should I be receiving my audio for audience questions? Thanks for any clarification there...

Have you used a Elgato Stream Deck with Team Live Events to control which presenter to "send live" virtual? Lately I've been producing doing events with 9+ presenters all presenters virtual and sending their video and que-ing them up using a mouse is rough. Trying to figure out if there's hardware that can do this.

Hi! I understand how this works.. but wouldn't it be easier to use a virtual audio driver? For example BlackHole virtual audio driver for Mac, or JACK Audio Connection Kit for Windows&Mac? I've been experimenting with it and I can share my screen, play the video and output the sound of the video to the virtual audio driver. Then use the virtual audio driver as input for Teams.. and woohoo: sound plays for the people viewing the live event!

Hi john, thank you for this video. I picked up a logitech screen share capture device after watching your video and it works pretty great for sharing audio! We noticed that certain louder more energetic music rock/EDM/pop sounds pretty distorted in the high ends. This is a problem for piping in intro music for our events. Do you have any suggestions for how we can get a cleaner sound? My first thought is maybe we can compress the music but I don't know of any stand alone compressor programs. Any ideas?

Thank you for posting this. If you wanted to display video, could you use another capture card, and set the video to that device?

(Windows) -
I believe this can also be done by simply enabling "Stereo Mix" in the "Recording tab under "Sound Control Panel".

So the answer is no. You guys showed a video where the person selected the video they wanted to share and also clicked on a checkbox that allowed the audio to be played. Why is this such a challenge?

Hey John, very helpful info on your channel. Thanks. I have a question re: producing a live event in teams for a client. It would appear we can't (as an agency) produce our clients' Live event within their teams if we are not part of their organisation, even with guest permissions. What would you recommend?
