But back then I was a young lad, I remember getting her autograph at Crystal Palace and she was very pleasant and smiley. I also thought athletes like Koch and Marlies Gohr were great and back then we never really thought about drugs, we just thought they were amazing athletes trained at East European sports academies, the envy of the west!

Every time I see this record, I'm reminded of how incredible Jarmila Kratochvílová was. After all these years, it's still standing, unbroken.

they should have more 300m events at diamond league, the world record, is ana guevara, of mexico, 35.30 A.and second on the list is kathy cook .35.46, not at altitude, just show what a brilliant athlete she was.

Amazing what PEDS can do to an athlete. No other women's 400m  runner has ever come close to Kratochvilova's time of 47.99, save for a doped Marita Koch in 1985. That's a staggering 30 years.  The sports authorities should seriously consider wiping out or erasing all world records in athletics before the implementation of more stringent doping tests from year 2000. Even the present winning time for the women's 400 metres at the Rio Olympics  set by Shaunae Miller of the Bahamas stands at 49.44s. That's a staggering 1.5 seconds behind Kratochvilova!
