Director John Lee Hancock wanted to cast an icon to play an icon, that's how Tom Hanks was cast as Walt Disney in the upcoming movie Saving Mr. Banks.
When Walt Disney's daughters begged him to make a movie of their favorite book - Mary Poppins, he made them a promise that would take 20 years to realize!
The film depicts the author's (P. L. Travers) briefing in 1961 Los Angeles as she is persuaded by Walt Disney, in his attempts to obtain the screen rights to adapt her novels.
The film takes it's title from the character of the father in Mary Poppins!
Saving Mr. Banks is a comedy-drama film releasing on February 7th, 2014!
